With unique ethnic Miao culture, splendid mountain views and limpid river, Huawu Village, located in Xinren Miao Township, Qianxi City, is a relocation site for poverty alleviation. Once Huawu Village had a poverty headcount ratio as high as 63.6 percent. Taking advantage of the rich cultural and natural heritage, it got rid of poverty by boosting tourism. And its residents' incomes are steadily increasing along with the development of local industry, and they have benefitted a lot from ecological conservation efforts.
Huawu Village is not alone. Many villages in China experienced from poverty to prosperity thanks to a series of poverty alleviation and rural revitalization policies. These villages' achievements surprised guests from Angola and Cape Verde.
Armindo da Luz, First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Cape Verde, lauded China’s approach to rural development, noting how organized planning and resource management have improved villagers' living standards and disaster resilience. He sees this as a model for other countries, emphasizing that China's successful rural governance offers practical lessons for enhancing rural areas worldwide.
Alcides de Pina, Member of the National People's Assembly of Cape Verde, also recognized China's achievements, particularly how formerly impoverished areas have been transformed into vibrant tourist destinations. He highlighted the potential for countries like Cape Verde to learn from China’s strategies for poverty alleviation and infrastructure development. He pointed out that many developing countries view China as a model, appreciating its development strategies as relevant and effective for their own growth and modernization efforts.
Without doubts, rurual development is a key part to Chinese mondernization. Despite toursim, promoting traditional culture is also significant to rurual development.
The Resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Further Deepening Reform Comprehensively to Advance Chinese Modernization underscores a holistic approach to reform, targeting key areas such as integrated urban and rural development, the preservation and promotion of traditional Chinese culture, developing whole-process people's democracy, and a steadfast commitment to sustainable development. This comprehensive strategy embodies China’s determination to deepen reforms and drive modernization across all facets of society.
Manuel Dembo, First Secretary of the National Assembly of Angola, echoed the importance of preserving traditional crafts, such as straw hat making, which are vital for many families' income. He stressed that cultural exchanges between China and Angola are enriching and that maintaining traditional cultures is crucial for educating future generations. He further explored China’s grassroots-level legislative contact points, which are not present in Angola. He expressed interest in adopting similar practices to improve democratic engagement and ensure that public opinions are reflected in legislation. This approach, according to Dembo, enhances the legitimacy and acceptance of laws among citizens.
Josina Fortes, Deputy Leader of the Independent Party Group in the Parliament of Cape Verde, observed that China’s unique development path, which aligns with its cultural and economic context, stands out as a successful model. She noted the potential for increased cultural cooperation and mutual benefits, particularly for nations like Cape Verde.
The insights shared reflect the broader global recognition of China’s achievements in various development areas and offer valuable lessons for other countries striving for similar progress. As nations across the globe look to the future, the story of China's modernization serves as a beacon of hope and a testament to the transformative power of thoughtful, inclusive, and sustainable development. By learning from each other and embracing innovative pathways, the global community can collectively advance towards a more prosperous and harmonious world.
